Real Navigation – National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS)

Being more confident when navigating in the mountains and moorlands leads to greater enjoyment of these wonderful outdoor environments. Don’t spend all your time in the hills with your heading buried in a map worrying about which path to take, enjoy the scenery and friendship of your companions.

The National Navigation Award Scheme provides a structured system for people who wish to learn land navigation skills. An important aim of the scheme is to encourage independent exploration and enjoyment of the countryside by children and people of all ages through the self-confidence that arises from navigational competence. Progression can be made through three stages; Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Bronze Navigator Award (2 days including assessment)
On completion of this award participants will be able to plan and safely follow walks in the countryside, primarily on paths and tracks.

Silver Navigator Award (2 days including assessment)
On completion of the award participants will be able to safely plan and follow a route with some sections away from paths and tracks.

Gold Navigator Award (2 days training and 1 day assessment)
On completion of the award, participants will be able to plan and confidently follow safe routes away from paths and tracks in nay open countryside.
