Course Details

REC Outdoor First Aid, 16 hour – including EFAW

This course covers First Aid in an Outdoor Environment, including EFAW (Emergency First Aid at Work. The course provides the qualification required by National Governing Bodies, e.g. Mountain and climbing activities, paddle sports, MTB, skiing, etc.

This a practical course with both indoor learning and outdoor scenarios. The course ratio is up to 1:12.

The knowledge and skills learned will include: 

  • Emergency: vital signs • emergency action • airway • unconscious • choking • bleeding • breathing and circulation • CPR • AED (automated external defibrillator) practical training
  • Environment: heat stress • cold stress • hot injuries • cold injuries
  • Illness: chest pain • stroke • asthma • epilepsy • diabetes
  • Injury: head • spine • chest • abdomen • pelvis • bones • soft tissue • eye
  • Rescue: transportation • communication.

You will need to bring clothing suitable for both indoor learning and practical outdoor scenarios, which will take place whatever the weather!

This course covers First Aid in an Outdoor Environment, including EFAW (Emergency First Aid at Work and +F (Forestry). The course provides the qualification required by National Governing Bodies, e.g. Mountain and climbing activities, paddle sports, MTB, skiing, etc.

This a practical course with indoor learning and may include indoor and outdoor scenarios. The course ratio is up to 1:12.

The knowledge and skills learned will include all those in REC Outdoor First Aid, 16 hour – including EFAW, plus:
Hazards found in forestry, farming and remote environments, focusing on life-threatening bleeding, crush injuries, hypothermia, Lyme disease, suspension injuries and emergency planning.

REC EFAW (HSE – Emergency First Aid at Work)

This is a one day (6 hour) course regulated by the HSE. The course includes practical scenarios to develop skills and knowledge.

Maximum number on course – 12

The knowledge and skills learned will include: 

  • Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • CPR
  • Treating an unconscious casualty
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Shock
  • Minor injuries
  • Choking

This is a practical course, and you will need to be prepared to participate in first aid scenarios, so please bring comfortable clothing and shoes.
