Wherever we go, mountains, rivers, the sea or a walk in the woods we want to leave the beauty of those places intact, no-one should know we have been there, we should leave no trace that we have walked, played or camped there. Our presence in these wild and beautiful places should have no impact on the environment and its natural processes; its vegetation, wildlife, water sources and should be left for other people to enjoy.
Perhaps we need to learn how to do this? Leave No Trace Awareness Training provides techniques designed to minimise social and environmental impacts to our ever-decreasing wilderness areas and develops an outdoor ethic to protect our natural and cultural heritage. And, of course, all these techniques can be applied just as easily to our urban and sub-urban areas, protecting the environments within parklands and open spaces, keeping them clean and welcoming for us and future generations.
The course covers the 7 principles of Leave no Trace:
- Plan Ahead and Prepare
- Travel and Camp on Durable Ground
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Leave What You Find
- Minimise the Impacts of Fires
- Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
- Be Considerate of Others
These courses can be adapted and delivered for any age and level of experience, including, adult clubs and societies, primary and secondary schools, youth clubs, Scouts and Guides, DofE, Cadets, groups of individuals, etc. Courses can be delivered over one day, two days including an overnight camp or during several evenings spread over a number of weeks; we will adapt to your needs.
At the end of the course you will receive an internationally recognised outdoor qualification and will immediately be able to minimise your impact on our fragile environment and encourage others to do the same.
The cost of these courses will depend on the format for your particular course and whether you will be providing you own facilities where we can base the course.
